Vanessa Sykes is from the Halifax area and completed her undergraduate degree at Mount Allison University in Hispanic Studies and Vocal Performance. She is a candidate for a Master’s Degree in Latin American Studies from the Universidad Nacional de San Martin in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Over the last six years Vanessa has worked in the field of education in Canada, the United States, Argentina and Bolivia. Vanessa has dedicated her time to gender development initiatives that enable young girls and women to be more involved in sport in particular strengthening institutional structures and networks of women’s rugby in Latin America.
Currently Vanessa is interning at the Ivar Mendez International Foundation (IMIF) in La Paz, Bolivia. An internship funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and administered by the Atlantic Council of International Cooperation (ACIC). She will be working in the area of project monitoring and evaluation until mid-February 2014.
